Wear BLUE Day in June Celebrates Men’s Health
Contributor John O’Brien, Insights from Men’s Health Network
June 13th Kicks off Men’s Health Week, part of June’s Men’s Health Awareness Month — Save the Date!
Friday, June 17th is Wear BLUE Day, to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This heightened awareness gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury supported by hundreds of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe.
Wear Blue Friday
Wear BLUE Day is an essential day celebrated every year on the third Friday of Men’s Health Month. The month and the special day were created by the Men’s Health Network — a non-profit organization that is focused on educating people regarding the numerous health issues men suffer. The motive of the organization is to change the male perception regarding health checkups and screening by launching several educational campaigns during June.
You can celebrate Wear BLUE Day by sporting a blue outfit and discussing the health issues that plague men across the world. Awareness regarding health issues occurring in the male population is critical since, on average, men live at least five years less than women. This is because men avoid health checkups and are mostly unaware of the ailments that may take their lives a few years down the line. Wear BLUE Day aims to decrease the number of diseases in men by promoting regular checkups and highlighting the health issues men may be facing.
